What fools you posters be: Earl is in keeping with his character, his statement is funny. Gasoline Alley is a great comic strip, one that is not afraid of the pc police and presents many diverse characters. Given Earls age and upbringing, the comment is appropriate. It certainly seems that Earl has been tried and convicted in the court of political correctness. If the dialogue is to much for you, read “Family Circus”.
Well, I like it! wndrwrthg said it well– ‘Earl is in keeping with his character’, and race is not off limits for humor. Jim’s isn’t obligated to create a candy-coated world where race is never mentioned or noticed. Race is a fascinating part of the dynamic of America. He’s doing a fine job in bringing us an entertaining narrative, and giving us some laughs and things to think about along the way. Gasoline Alley is a great strip. I think that’s why even the chronic complainers are here every day.

Uh-oh, fasten your seat-belts and keep you hands inside the vehicle, because here we go…… or, quick, into the root cellar– there’s a storm coming!

Do I detect a stereotypical racist remark there Bird? You sound like a reverse Archie Bunker!

People of all colors need to lighten up when it comes to ethnic humor.
I’m white, but I still think that this strip is funny.

If people would stop being so sensitive when no harm is intended, we’d have a lot less racism.

I like this comic strip, and I am fine with Bird’s statement in panel 3. (Note, I am a white male.)
His remark is how people speak in the ‘real world’.
Continuing, this statement wasn’t uttered using a derogatory slang toward a white man.
This strip has a good story and is well drawn.
Enjoy ~

No humor in Archie Bunker? Stop the presses!

It would be nice if people just relax about this sort of thing.
Besides, the more important thing here is that Bird is listening to Joe Filisko! Now all we need is for Je to put out more Cds….
