Hey, what are you talking about Doty? It takes hard work and preparation to be spontaneous. It is no easy job to make something look smooth and effortless. But I’m sure Skeezix is up to the job. As we used to say in the Army, “Once a Soldier, always a Soldier. But once a night is enough.”

This is probably the best advice Skeezix could get. Since the audience will be full of Soldiers or their families anyway and they’ve all already been there and did that telling them an old war story is probably just what he needs to get them to pay attention. And approve.
Is his speech going to be right away or are they eating first? Maybe he can go back and get the speech if they give up the meal. Not a bad idea since the food at these things is usually pretty crummy.
I think Susan meant those as simply examples, rather than as places where Skeezix may have been. Both places are where adrenaline, and blood, rolled freely. I don’t think she was giving a history lesson.

Well, Skeezix Wallet only served in the US Military during World War II.
I was in Vietnam during the 1968 Tet Holiday Offensive and I was a short-timer.
Oh, Dypak, so you hear with your eyes and see with your ears?
According to GoComics, all of us must talk with our fingers.
My voice has never been heard on this website.

Well Joe, as a matter of fact in this case that’s exactly what I do. My eyes pick up the words, transmit them to my brain and that’s where I hear them. Same as when I hear with my ears. All my eyes and ears do is receive the input, it’s my brain which does all the work. And yup, I talk with my fingers. You’d be amazed at how much I can say with just my fingers.
Alot of times I do imagine what the people who post on line sound like. It helps make them more human, more real to me. It makes me try to be nicer and less rude, or at least less sarcastic. Sometimes I don’t quite make it though, sorry.
When I’m reading one of your posts in my head I hear this Oklahoma drawl. It’s sort of a cross between a rusty gate and a rocking chair on a squeaky floor. Your actual speaking voice may not be heard, but our words speak loud and clear. If you don’t understand that you might want to stay off line until you do.

Imagine them in their underwear.
There are three speeches
Speech you’re going to give
Speech you give
Speech you should have given
The audience doesn’t know the difference.

Lewreader - It works for teachers as well.
The lesson I was going to teach. The lesson I taught. The lesson I should have taught.
Thanks, I’m going to keep this in mind.

What “thing”? He’s at an NPR station to give a 5 minute radio talk about the museum. His speech will be at a later date.
