I know Jim is going for laughs here,but with a 35 yr. old gas stove if the pilot flame is out and will not light you have no gas- your tank is empty or someone turned the gas value off ! Pilot light has no moving parts to wear out that I remember !
(sorry, it is just the old mechanic in me crying out )!
