When my elder daughter was teething, there was a head bolt about 4 inches long on the dashboard while we were driving. She got fussy, so I let her gnaw on the head bolt. Not every lady can say she cut her teeth on a head bolt. She’s a music teacher, not a mechanic.
My 3 kids cut their teeth on “Milk Bones” dog treats. We had a dog that would wait patiently near the high chair and “clean the floor” when the bone was dropped. Lot less mess than with graham crackers or other “baby” type stuff. Dog never bothered when we were at the table…but did have a clean floor when we had young’uns!!!

If we were at home, I’d give my son a (cleaned) ice cold can of beer/soda and let him gnaw away on the bottom edge. Supervised of course.
