….always tell visitors when hearing aggressive scratching on the back porch door by my demanding yet friendly 12 lb kitty….i’d be afraid of it if it was 10 lbs heavier…
This one shows Jim Scancarelli’s craft and whimsy at their best. First the King Kong Kitty seems like a small cat in the foreground, and then I notice the tiny overlap of Joe’s pipe and the cat and realize that it’s behind him and huge. Then I go back and notice Joel in the first frame, watching and listening, even though he’s been right there in the foreground all along. And suddenly the whole thing is about “welcome to Joel’s world,” and my day is off to a smiling start. Only a master can put so many layers and so much movement into two frames.
Been trying to find a way to write to Jim to let him know he’s blowing it.
I’ve been a faithful reader of GA since 1976, but I am sick and tired of the story lines Jim has been creating. I’m just about to remove this strip from my favorites here on GoComics.

This oddly reminds me of the “Act One” finale of “AVENUE Q.”

Oh, oh. Did Joel accidentally get some of Gweedo’ s State’s green leaf in his pipe? That cat mirage is awfully scary.

It seems to be 50/50 here. Half of G.A. fans like the Rufus/Joel story arcs and the other half doesn’t. Jim seems not to respond well on his choices.
