Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley for December 15, 2013
Transcript:
Rob Wilco: We're home Bucky! Satchel Pooch: Come look! I got stitches! Bucky Katt: How much blood did you lose? You look like you got a shemaglobin transfusion. Satchel Pooch: uhh... Bucky Katt: The hat. What's with the hat? Satchel Pooch: Oh! I was their best patient! Bucky Katt: What, since they bought the hat in 1690? Satchel Pooch: They didn't say. Bucky Katt: I'm kidding, Satchel. You wear that hat in 1690 and they'll arrest you for being a witch. Satchel Pooch: The masculine of witch is a warlock, actually. Bucky Katt: Right, and they'd arrest you for being a witch. Satchel Pooch: Ohhhh, ok. I see what you did there. Bucky Katt: ...do you? Satchel Pooch: Oh, I will. I'll ask Rob later if I have to.

When I was very little and had the hiccups, my grandpa would tell me I had the sheccups. He usually was very reserved, so when he would joke on occasion, it stood out. Like the time we were having dinner, and my grandma and I were chatting away. He winked at my husband, nodded towards grandma and said, “I wouldn’t trade her for two just like her.” It almost slipped past us… almost.

How did Satchel get hurt? Who is his vet “The Cat in the Hat”?
YatInExile about 11 years ago
If Satchel is a witch, let’s see him turn Bucky into a newt.

Good call Bucky

Witch is gender neutral, there is no masculine or feminine variation. Warlock actually means “oath-breaker” in Gaelic. It’s a popular misconception, repeated in movies and whatnot, but if you call a male witch a warlock in the real world, you’re looking for trouble.

I have no idea what the joke is supposed to be in this strip. Can someone explain it? None of the above comments are at all helpful to me.

“The masculine of witch is warlock”Only if the person you’re asking is not a witch.
Dan Tooker about 11 years ago
Is this a new one? Check out the the dates. Todays date and a 2013 copywrite.

The masculine of witch is WITCH – Warlock is from the Old English WAER – word or oath, and LOGGA – to break, so Warlock is oath breaker. Hollywood societal fail.
RDCollins about 11 years ago
I have no idea what you’re talking about. The line you quote isn’t in the strip.
RDCollins about 11 years ago
Makes sense, I suppose, and the Monty Python scene is amusing for its illogic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp_l5ntikaU), but this strip is lame.

Bucky called Satchel a Witch(female). Since Satchel was at the vet he will be checking to see if he has his male parts. He’ll be asking Rob to be sure.

Go ahead Satch..Turn Bucky into a Newt…

I agree with TheTrustedMechanic. “Do You? Oh, I will. I’ll Ask Rob later.” I see several Bucky jabs in the strip. Also I see it as Sunday Strips are never part of a story arc. What Satchel needed stitches for is left to your imagination.
RDCollins about 11 years ago
It was the latter. Sorry to have confused you.

Actually, the term ‘witch’ refers to both male and female. ‘Warlock’ means ‘traitor.’
