There was a tree in a parking lot that was always cheeping loudly. Never saw any of the birds!! I imagine if I stood there for awhile I would see them fly in and out, but I had better things to do.
If you hear it year round, it’s probably a chickadee. True phoebes are summer birds, at least in the eastern US. The chickadees make a very loud fee-BEE!
When I was a kid many many years ago, my mother would read Thornton W. Burgess’s books to me. Talking animals, you know the drill.
Sammy Jay (I think that name is right) was a blue jay who’s favourite interjection was “Thief! Thief!” He wasn’t actually calling people thieves – more of a form of Tourettes. That’s how I’ve always heard blue jay calls ever since.
