Wonder how many high schools have a recreation ice center. When I was in HS, we had a hockey team, but no ice rink. We partnered with another school, which also didn’t have an ice rink and played out games at the local state park owned rink. The local university also played their games there as well. Building and maintaining an ice arena is a very costly operation requiring a continuous flow of expenses, most school districts do not have. Just the cost of a Zamboni Machine is prohibitive in most cases.
