I was momentarily confused by the misspelling in the comic adage. Firmnes? What are they? Oh, it’s FIRMNESS!
On the other hand, I just learned I’ve been mispronouncing and misspelling “obstinacy” all my life. So why isn’t it “redundacy?” I hate English spelling.

A lot of the problems are that English words come from a variety of languages, each with different rules.
