I think Ginger is growing up to be a very smart young man.

The correct Australian vernacular for greeting is ‘G’day mate’, not ‘how do’ etc., etc.

Ah, Joe-Allen, but you assume mum borrowed it in the first place :)

G’day Jason, Joe-Allen, Lonewolf and all Meggsie fans.

What can they borrow from Mum that would be anything like a hammer - maybe a meat tenderiser? Oh yeah, and maybe that’s why the hammer’s missing; Dad used it to tenderise his thumb and has just remembered he threw it over the fence in disgust. No way could he admit to that.

Perhaps he got confused weeks ago by the switching shadow on the board (yesterday) and tried banging a nail with the claw end of the hammer head.

Hey Guys! Moms or Mums can own hammers. Mum probably knows how to use a hammer better than Dad. I like hammers!

The day I saw her using my torque wrench for a hammer was the day my wife was presented with her own set of tools.

My grandmother always kept a shingling hammer (hatchet) with a short handle in the kitchen. She used the hatchet side for splitting bones and the knurled poll for tenderizing meat.

Lewreader, I had that same type of a problem with my ex. She tried using my automotive digital multi-volt meter to test the wall sockets in the house and fried it.

My Mum hammered me after she caught me smoking when I was around Ginger’s age - but it was with a wooden spoon.

She frightened the life out of me too by saying if I did that I would never grow up. For months I kept trying to reach the mantlepiece above the cooking stove until, to my relief, I made it.

After what I know about some things in life now, maybe I should have gone down the back of the garage after the pain from the wooden spoon subsided and smoked like a chimney. But hopefully, that is not Ginger’s secret to being 89 years old going on 12.

Joe-Allen: maybe Dad painted the hooks black, or - wait - maybe the hammer ones came out and they should have looked on the floor.

Hi Joe-Allen, Yes, the world ages but Ginger and his mates don’t, they just keep up with it. Guess your last entry says it all, couldn’t agree, or relate, more with all you say, may I quote you: ‘With Ginger Meggs, we don’t have to say, “Remember when Ginge was 12 years old”? That’s because he stays that way.’ And us along with him. I (blush) have 60 years more experience beyond Meggsie’s age and have to conclude the most important thing I have learnt is that Meggsie had it right.

My Mom had a toolbox, which she kept locked so Dad wouldn’t borrow her tools. He had his own, but hers were easier to find. I don’t think she would have minded if he borrowed them, as long he brought them back, but he didn’t on a timely basis. Both my hubby & I have a fair amount of tools, but whenever he borrows mine, I have to go chase them back down and put them where they belong.
