No, its not grandma who is at fault here, it is the kid who has learned a useful talent called “learned helplessness.” This is the technique of someone who outwardly acts willing to do an certain task, but then proceeds to do it so poorly that they are relieved of that duty. Eventually, they end up doing nothing, which was the whole objective.

ah, yes. The ironing. The hemming. The weeding of the garden. Done in earnest, with care and attention. But such a bad job, so slow, and way too many burned fingers, tangled thread and more flowers than weeds lost….. Lost those jobs to mom. What she did in 5 minutes, took me 30 or more.
