my all time favorite from grand avenue was kate sitting in front of a dark tv in full mourning garb, with gloves and a hat with a veil. one of the kids tries to say comfortingly, “there’s always next year.” she shakes her head and says " you just don’t understand."
weirdharold2112: It is a tradition there. I had a seat in 1955 exactly even with the rim (the other side was eclipsed by the near one) and the protruding part of the circle – the ideal spot for an official to sit to rule on such matters. Goal tending requires some part of the body to be within a 45° angle cone from the inside of the rim. A finger reached the point a half inch above the rim and three inches away from it, far from the cone. “Goal tending, SMU”.
Traveling is something I haven’t seen a ref call in two generations. I was playing rec bball the last time I saw traveling called; my granddaughter turns 14 tomorrow. That’s how long it’s been since I’ve seen traveling called. Thought I was seeing things when I saw a charging foul called a few months ago.
