Heart: what's this, dean? Dean: My Halloween costume... I'm wilkus van de merne from "district 9"! Dean: Oh, c'mon! Didn't the one alien arm give it away?! Heart: Not even close.
“And WHY he’s seeing movies without adult supervision?!”
Why do you assume he was unsupervised? Some parents take their kids to R-Rated movies. Is that inappropriate? It depends on the movie, it depends on the kid. Dean could certainly handle “District 9.”
We’ve seen Heart’s mom, but we never see Dean’s parent(s). That would assume he goes to those blockbuster flicks alone. And if I remember well, there was a storyline about Dean and Heart sneaking in a theater to see a movie!
Don’t forget (from the adventure with the Star Wars 8mm reel) - one of Dean’s best adult friends is a projectionist - who can sneak him in the theater, even after hours.
We’ve never seen Dean’s parents, but we know they’re around. No need to assume he watches these unaccompanied. He’s also intimately familiar with movies (“Casablanca”, “The Godfather”, I think even “Clockwork Orange”, which was released as an “X”) that played in the theaters long before he was born. He’s a film buff, his friend the projectionist is a film buff, there’s reason to believe his father is a film buff. I don’t think his Dad would be too worried about taking Dean to just about any movie he (Dean) might be interested in seeing. One instance of him and Heart sneaking into a theater is anecdotal evidence, and hardly conclusive.
(Besides - wasn’t sneaking in HEART’S idea, and she talked Dean into reluctantly accompanying her? That’s their normal dynamic; Dean’s usually the more scrupulous about honesty, if not about “reality.”)

Dean is probably the only 8-year-old who’s SEEN “District 9”!

But it is not the other 8-year-olds who give him sweets. ;)

Never saw that movie. And WHY he’s seeing movies without adult supervision?!

Maybe if you played that character from the END of the movie, people could figure it out! (But it would be a MUCH more complicated costume!!)

More power to him if he has the stomach for it - I couldn’t handle District 9! (But then, I’m a wuss, so…)
