Heart: Woo hoo! Thanksgiving week! Only three days of school, then four days off! Heart: and the best part is, teachers don't want to start anything new, so it's three days of easy classroom assignments and watching videos! Heart: I think when we look back on our academic careers, it will be the not learning that will stand out the most.

My daughter’s school has the entire week off. They’re not even making a pretense of trying to educate anyone this week!

My daughter’s school is also out this entire week. This followed by 2 extra teacher’s days (because extra days are put in the schedule here in Florida in case of Hurricanes). And you know what…this summer…they’ll be complaining that there isn’t enough time for school and we need to extend the school year…again.

As a professor, I have found videos and other visuals to be one of the best learning tools for all ages. They, of course, need to be accompanied by discussion and perhaps an assignment related to them, but what’s on the screen is more likely to be remembered than what’s in the book or on the blackboard – or worse yet, what the professor drones on about.

A great many school districts around the nation have made the first day of school earlier, but not added any days of school. This system shortens summer vacation, but scatters several additional weeks of vacation through the year. So school is out this entire week. Kids aren’t spending any additional or fewer days in class.
