Cats tend to go for the back of the neck of their prey simply to sever the spine. Dogs on the other hand, go for the throat. I have a black cat like Spock that my daughter called Sam ( otherwise known to the rodent world as “Son of…”). This cat is still apparently a very good ratter despite his ever increasing weight.
