Dean: Ya know...watermelon used to be alot more fun when we could spit the seeds at each other. Heat: Another beautiful childhood memory crushed by the progress of science.
A friend of mine ordered seedless watermelon seeds from a seed catalog. When the package arrived it was empty. He thought it was a joke or something until he called and they claimed a malfunction in the packaging equipment.
Personally, I find the seedless types to be less sweet and the flavor lacking from the old seeded cultivars.
The tiny white “seeds” in seedless watermelons are actually undeveloped ovules or “pips.” If you were to plant these pips nothing would grow because there is no seed inside. They are just the soft undeveloped seed coating of the sterile seedless watermelon plant.

My wife and buy the mini-seedless watermelons (when the price is right). We often have a hard time finishing one off.

I prefer the seeded watermelon myself. The seeded kind of watermelon are sweeter than the seedless, and besides, It’s still fun spitting those seeds.

Once again taste was sacrificed for convenience, as with seedless watermelon. The one with seeds is sweeter and has way more juice.

After you finish eating, throw the rest of the watermelon like a boomerang.
