Even when I was a kid, I would skip over all of the big picture strips and look for Sergio’s work in the margins and corners. The big stuff was always there, but his works could easily be overlooked. I was not happy when they started ads. Still love MAD, and I still miss CRACKED (with Sylvester the Janitor). Both were influential on my choice of written satire. Oh, and female/51 here.
Thanks to Mad’s illustrated version, Edgar Allen Poe’s “the Raven” is my favorite poem. I had to cross check that the words were unaltered (they were true). It took a very long time to read because of the tears of laughter blurring my vision.
Satire forever, never surrender! Remember Charlie.
I have some of Sergio’s original artwork in my collection. He’s a great cartoonist with a remarkable imagination.I used to read Mad faithfully, until there was an overabundance of “barf” jokes in the mid-nineties. I still miss it.

Keep in mind that this strip was done weeks before thetragic event that happened this past Wednesday in Paris, France.

Of course there’s also an instant cartooning, but I don’t think it exists.
