I’d forgotten pinkie balls. Mainly we played with pimple balls, but they were hollow and easily lost their bounce. Then they’d be cut in half to play half-ball.

Hello from Chicago. We called that game pinners. I’ve forgotten all about that game. Thanks for the flashback Mark. I can’t believe it has a Wiki page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinners

Mrs. Angelini forgot to start the story: “Picture it, South Philly, Mid 1950’s”. Oh wait, I’m thinking of another Italian lady. The Pinkish-RED RUBBER BALL must be the one named in the song.

She was about Heart’s age in the 1950’s. This would mean Mrs. Angelini is about 70 years old.

We called it “stoop ball.” And Stick Ball in the Hand Ball wall. Always had to have the pink ball, though.

Waitaminute – I remember a 2000 arc showing Mrs. Angelini marrying her husband before he got shipped off to the Korean War. Hate to get pedantic, but that’s quite at odds with this storyline.

“The pinkie ball?” She must mean a “pensy pinky.” They didn’t bounce as well as a Spalding, but they were, as I recall, fifteen cents instead of twenty-five. So we bought them. And we mostly played “Chinese Handball.”

Oh my…the famous Spalding pink ball. Many many hours of fun with it in the 50s. We called it Stoop ball but also had a ton of stuff we did with that wonderful pink ball! Anyone remember “A my name is Alice?”

You know, I think this was the first time he did a Mrs. Angelini story since 2005. It’s sweet that he decided to do one last Mrs. A story for old time’s sake before he handed over the strip.
