There is nothing wrong with writing it off on your taxes. I would do it if I could. For me, the standard deduction is over twice what I could itemize. So you better believe I take the standard deduction. There have been years, however that only my church giving put me over the standard deduction.
The same thing happened in the movie, The Bells of St. Mary’s. Cyrus gave over his building to become the church’s new school. He even said the same thing about taking off his taxes.
