“Those who say it can’t be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.”
“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.”
“Life is tragic simply because the earth turns and the sun inexorably rises and sets, and one day, for each of us, the sun will go down for the last, last time.”—James Baldwin
I once asked my girls what they wanted to be when they grew up. Younger Daughter (now the Middle Kiddle) wanted to be a nun* and have six children. Elder Daughter looked at me in horror. “Mummy, I’m six. I don’t need to worry about that now!” She finally allowed as how she’d like to be an Office Lady, and have two children, which is actually what she ended up doing.
*There are Episcopal orders of nuns, but they don’t have children.
The trouble is, Uhuru, the earth destroyers can believe the same thing. There’s another phrase, “The world should be a better place because one has lived.”
If you try to leave things nicer when you leave than they were when you got there, there’s some chance things will be nicer when you leave than they were when you got there.
