Being Friendly With A Customer? A Fat Lot Of Good That Did!
I work in a busy and boisterous restaurant. Us waitstaff are known for our outgoing demeanor and friendly banter. We’re also known for our big portions. I bring a large platter of food to a table where one of the customers exclaims:
Customer: “Wow, that’s a lot!”
Me: Encouragingly. “You can do it!”
I give them a thumbs-up as I walk away.
Customer: “…can I speak to the manager?”
My manager comes over and they proceed to tell them what I said.
Customer: “No one has ever made me feel so fat.”
When my manager refused to punish me for my “remarks”, she had her husband write a bad Yelp review on her behalf.
