In Harris County (Houston, TX) when you get a jury summons it’s for morning or afternoon, and if you’re put on a panel, you are dismissed when the panel is finished (trial or negotiation).
Lived in California for a few years, where a jury summons was for a week. If you were placed on a panel, you served and then returned to the jury pool. And hope you didn’t get assigned to a panel at the end of the week!
I got called for Jury Duty last year. It’s usually about 2 months out from the time you receive a summons. If it conflicts with a vacation planned during that time you can get a postponement by calling. Just don’t ignore it. Unless you’re selected to be on a jury it’s usually just one day you need to be in the Courthouse

He can be excused if he has non-refundable tickets or reservations.

In Oregon, you can excuse yourself if you are over 70 yo. Having sat through four days for a jury selection a while back, I take the out.

They give you more notice than that.
