All you ‘regulars’ in the comment column are like club members… You all seem to know (and mostly like) each other and make reading the comics strips much more fun. Thanks, and a Happy New Year to you all.

I first thought of the film Double Indemnity. Fred MacMurray as an insurance salesman, Barbara Stanwyck as a provocative housewife who wishes her husband were dead, and Edward G. Robinson as a claims adjuster whose job is to find phony claims.Great early ‘40s film noire directed by Billy Wilder. Old Freddie Mac certainly wasn’t the kindly dad of My Three Sons, and Barbie Stan wasn’t the sweet Victoria Barkley of Big Valley ! Edward G’s performance is so brilliantly low keyed he should have been nominated for an Academy Award.

“My girlfriend asked me, ‘If you could know the exact time, place, and manner of your death, would you want to know?’ I said, ‘No.’ She said, ‘OK, forget it.’” -Stephen Wright
