Back in the ’80s, when the Russians were allowing Jews to leave the USSR, I had a friend who was a Russian interpreter. He was working for the Jewish Resettlement Agency. Some background, at this time the USSR was bragging that they were graduating more engineers than all the Western Countries. My friend was interviewing a young woman who insisted that she was an engineer. A food engineer. He thought something was wrong with his understanding of her Russian. So he finally asked her if she could explain what she did. Turned out she was a salad maker. He got her a job with an exclusive restaurant. He said she made beautiful salads.

Don’t knock it. Floral design was one of the most fun electives I took in college. I’m sure those with the major had even more fun.
