16 YO. First time shopping alone at the AFB commissary. I got only the items on the shopping list, not even a stick of gum more. It was over $400 (1976ish time frame) I was flabbergasted. Told mom, her reply was “mmm That’s not too bad!” I had never written a check for that amount before.
