I wonder what Yokai they’ll see first? Kappas are common, or maybe an Oshioni? Or maybe the dreaded and one-of-a-kind Kuchisake-Onna? Let’s hope she doesn’t ask Sam if she’s pretty around Sedine, there really won’t be a right answer!
Is this an excuse for the author to get creatively excessive with the anime homages and references that will inevitably appear once Sedine and Sam land in Japan?
Awe, Japan. Been stationed at Iwakuni twice (2 years), Okinawa thrice (8 years). Traveled all over mainland Japan including Yokohama, Hiroshimi, Toyko, Misawa, Yokota, Sasebo, and of course on the southern island of Okinawa. Totally loved the customs, food, SCUBA diving (owned our own school there), traditions and the people. My wife loved it too. With her blondish red hair and only 5 feet tall, she was an instant novelty.
I suspect the hat is to hide his blonde hair. My wife found that the Japanese loved to touch her hair especially when her blondish red sun bleach to blonde. On top of that it was long. They find the color very amusing. They stared at her, asked to touch it, etc. A lot of the anime characters have blonde hair so the heroes stand out. My wife was told she looked like a doll!
Maybe the hat has to do with the fact that Eastern countries really like all that cowboy stuff. I mean in Japan there were kind of a back-and-forth thing where Cowboys movies in the west would be inspired by Samurai movies in the East and vice-versa.

Represent, not being a miss-spelling of yer present, has very ominous overtones.

I bet Sedine is gonna tick-off someone in the Yakuza, she’ll either get in a lot of trouble, or end up running the show. :D

I bet Sedine and Sam will get an addition in the family too. Holiday trips can cause that.

They are gaga for cowboy culture in the Land of the Rising Sun. Just keep Sedine out of the Pachinko palors!
