I have an elm that came out of nowhere. Tried to kill it for years without success. Now it’s huge and shades the west kitchen wall from the blasting heat of the afternoon sun. Thank you, Lord.
Second theory is that the tree was incentivized to grow tall enough to see into your bedroom window, pervy tree you got there.(Also why are you growing a tree on Ellie’s side of the lawn?)
The walnut tree the squirrels “planted” in my yard grow at a rate of +2’ a year. It’s in line with the other 2 trees (oak and maple) with the proper distance. Nice work.
Well, it is usually because the places we choose to plant in are not good for that particular species. That lucky walnut may have one of thousands accidentally planted by the squirrel, but only one landed in the ‘right’ spot. Your tree is in the wrong spot.
There is an obscure (but really good) song that resonates with this strip. “The Tree that Lived and Died Right Before My Eyes.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ePpDCbeXhw&ab_channel=Au4

Obviously the walnut stole your love, given how much it grew in a week it must’ve stolen the love you give Sam too.

This feels so very much like the beginning of a lengthy arc …

My neighbor has an ash tree, and they drop those whirly gig seeds that grow EVERYWHERE! I think they have a 100% germination rate.

Sunlight.
Miracle, made this seed of mine,
Grow tall.
A tree so strong. Its all around me now.
But every little thing I do,
Is poison to these tender roots.
The ways I try to make it grow,
The branches break and leaves will blow.
New rain.
Waterfall, made this tree of mine,
Grow apples.
Flowers fall. They’re all around me now.
Life is gone. This tree of mine,
Is just hanging on a hope.
You say if I
Really want the leaves to show.
On it’s own. Leave it alone,
And just let it grow.

Maybe the tree got a little taste of nurture and want’s a little more?

The best piece of advice someone gave me about gardening is benign neglect.
