I’m with Dynaman here, those tiny capsules on Batman’s original belt wouldn’t be big enough to hold a cell phone. (And why the Batman television show had a version that might actually hold things… Except the things supposedly in the belt were still much bigger than the pouches could have held – and why the “taking out from the utility belt” was always off camera as Batman or Robin pulls out something the size of a bowling ball.)

Don’t be so sure it’s not a utility belt. Certainly not what I’d call one, but sitting here thinking about it Ican begin to see a fanny pack being a utility belt. IF done right rather than just thrown in.
