When my wife was a little girl (mid to late 1940s), her grandparents lived a block south of H-A. She was allowed to roller-skate on Waller St., but was forbidden to skate anywhere near Ashbury! (They lived in the building on the SE corner—- shows up nicely on GOOGLE EARTH)
