I’m glad I never had children, grandchildren & great grandchildren to feed into the dysfunctional usa. I’m glad I’m old and don’t have a lifetime of this crap to live through.
I will be surprised if we are not sowing the seeds again to blow up the economy, increase the wealth gap, increasing both the debt and the deficit. In fact Trump has promised to do just about all of that.
All of those steps have taken place. If the shoe was on the other foot, there would be hell to blame if the democrats denied a republican his legal right to make appointments to supreme court. And, there is no way the republicaould have gotten in all 3 branches EXCEPT for they started laying out this plan around the time of Reagan. And the gerrymandering butchered the areas in such a way that it would take a miracle for a democrat to win.
What ole Jen intentionally forgets to mention is that obama repeatedly refused to work with BOTH sides of the aisle to get things done because he was more interested in scoring political points with his extremists than he was in doing the country’s business!
When somebody is able to show me how more government regulations and bureaucracy have made the USA more productive and prosperous, then Jen might have a point. Currently, the problems with government have come from both the GOP and the Democrats because they have implemented far too much government, particularly in areas where it is not only unnecessary but actually bad for the public.
Perceptions are different than reality. Only 2% work for the federal government, state and local employees are the bulk of the 15.6% who work for the government.

A lot of the the grumbling is misdirected. The economies of scale don’t apply to government? As states compete with each other to attract businesses, local and property taxes rise to fill the revenue gap or things simply don’t get done. Walmart eliminated a lot of local stores as they were able to buy in extremely large quantities and survive with lower profit margins because of the number of stores … economies of scale.
Big business good, big government bad?
Big business can easily dispose of the its bad managers, government positions not so much. The unions —oops, I mean political parties -- make sure that even the incompetent and corrupt do not have to worry about their jobs. It seems to be a status symbol if your mayor or, better yet, governor has done time in jail.
Excellent cartoon Ms. Sorensen. You can’t really sum up the last eight years much better than that. And the refusal of the repubs to open confirmation hearings on the appointment of Merrick Garland is the treasonous cherry on top. I consider MItch McConnell’s whole effort to “make Obama a one term president” by putting party ahead of country also treason. (If anyone thinks repubs have been angry over the last eight years, you ain’t seen nothing yet.)
We have “democracy” as far as the Plutocrats allow us to play the game with their pieces on their board their way which is taken from the Constitution, but altered slightly.
Sadly, sad but true. Except for the conspiracy bit- this is just base basic human nature (self-interest, selfishness, self-absorption- greed, in a nutshell) coupled with opportunism.

Step 8: Blame everything on Obama. The Trumpettes will eat that up and ask for more.

Obama was never as bipartisan as Clinton. The president is an ideologue.

The worst things you could say about Obama fit in a paragraph under a cartoon. I say the cartoon won. Facts don’t care what you believe.
