I have no issue with CJ identifying as a black person.
You should be worried that he's ignoring his white heritage!
Actually, we're Irish, sicilian,
welsh greek, belgian....
He's right keep it simple.
There is not a White heritage per se. There are diferent European ethnic and/or national groups, and they started calling themselves whites in oposition to black African descendents, among others. Before that, they could be pretty racist to each other, as those others used to be either conquerors or conquered.
Funny, this same thing happens the world over. People “lump” one particular culture, or sometimes a particular “shade” or perceived group (from their personal estimation, that is) all together, but the truth is quite different from that…. – A wide variety of groups and cultures, even “groups within groups”. Yet so many may automatically “pigeon hole” the sum of different groups into “neat little categories”. The sum of mankind is quite different from that, though- very diverse, indeed!
By the same token there isn’t a single black heritage. Although, there is much common experience and culture for Africans whose ancestors were slaves in the US. But that’s totally different from those who immigrated here in the past 150 years.
Thought they were american. Also if anything the “issue” would be that he seems to identify with the negative stereotypes around black people – instead of being his own personality.
I am Polish (jewish) on my mom’s side, and Italian on my dad’s side. I was raised Christian but I am proud of my jewish heritage. I always love visiting my aunt, uncle and cousins as they are jewish and I can experience jewish traditions

nailer – Same thing in Africa. Even in factories you will see the workers split by ethnicity and / or tribe.

But why does he have to identify as “sterotypically” black? Not all blacks wear hoodies and back-wards caps!

I find it easier not to identify with a group and to just hate everyone else equally.
