When automobiles first came into use they would sometimes send men out with red flags to walk in front of the car and warn people that an automobile was approaching. Maybe they should do that!

I drove a Prius for many years. Yes, it was quiet, but that should not be a problem. Drivers are required by law in all 50 states to watch out for pedestrians. Whether or not a pedestrian can hear the car coming, the driver should be paying attention to the people walking in or across the road.

While my hybrid is somewhat quiet in electric mode, when the V6 gas motor kicks in, it’s not so quiet (it’s a Toyota Highlander hybrid SUV)

My college roommate had a car that was equipped with a horn AND a bicycle bell! It was under the hood and operated by a button on the dash. It was a fun, whimsical, non-aggressive way to alert passersby that she was there!

I thought I had read that when the Prius first came out, that because it was so quiet, that they had some kind of whistle on them, powered by the air flow of the vehicle movement.

Pedestrians need to look both ways before they step into the street. You can easily see a car coming.

Rattling a set of keys out the window works well for D. Trump.

When my Corvair was low mileage, it would startle people walking in parking lots because the engine noise blew out the rear. A few years of hard driving made it much easier to hear.

A car that doesn’t make enough noise is like a cigarette that doesn’t give you enough cancer!
