A panhandler came up to my car at a red light. I handed him one of those golden Sacajawea dollar coins. He said, “What’s this, a dollar?” “Yes.” “Well, okay.”
NOS.NEVETS…we have supported 18 children from TZ over the years, through Compassion International. I have great feeling for the country and its people. Here in the USA, homelessness can be rooted in mental illness, substance abuse, or something as simple as a fire, flood or mud slide wiping out the home of a family who lives paycheck to paycheck and has no back up resources to find permanent shelter. I have seen, following Superstorm Sandy on the East Coast, teachers, lawyers and police and fire personnel living out of their vehicles until they could find affordable housing. All needed a hand up in their time of trouble, not a hand out.
