I just finished a story in which the protagonist, a professional and expert killer, had sworn an oath that he would never pick up a weapon again until the day he died. So when his village was under attack, he picked up a weapon to protect the village, killed a lot of the attackers… and died of his wounds. I think the people who have STILL not gotten jabbed fall into 5% “procrastinator” and 95% “won’t do that until the day I die”.
I’m not really HOPING for that last option, but I sure won’t object.
Strong nations have common goals for health, safety, equality, prosperity, mutual trust/respect, and overall happiness, which are achieved by their society voluntarily participating to meet those goals.
We have some ½ Col up here in Canada who won’t get vaxed because (insert stupid reason). I found my vax records from when I was in, lots of ‘em. When you sign up for Queen and Country, you agree to follow the rules. I’m assuming he flies a desk and just has rank but no command. There is lots of room on civvy street and hope he gets section and drummed out. If you are demoted you pension is based on your rank.
Trump pushed for ‘dangerous herd immunity’ Covid strategy at height of pandemic, House committee finds
Most reputable medical experts say the ‘herd immunity’ strategy former president and his advisers pushed for would have been dangerous and unworkable
Top Trump administration officials pushed for the government to adopt a “dangerous herd immunity strategy” that would have “encouraged” Americans to contract and spread Covid-19 at the height of the pandemic in 2020, a new report from the House coronavirus select committee has found.
The health minister for South Africa hosted a presentation on Friday morning in which data was produced indicating that rate of deaths from omicron was about 33% lower that what was seen with delta. That’s not “like a cold.” It is, in fact, still many times worse than the flu. But it is better than delta.
Omicron’s severity when compared to delta or other variants is still in doubt. What’s not in doubt is the rate of spread. So far in the United States, the cases of omicron are doubling every two days. That’s seven times faster than the spread of delta when that variant appeared.
Omicron is rapidly displacing other variants in Europe and the United States, just as it did in South Africa. A portion of this is likely explained by a (not yet peer-reviewed) study from the University of Hong Kong which found that omicron replicates 70 times more quickly in the human respiratory system than did delta, or other variants. However, the level of infections in the lungs “is significantly lower than the original SARS-CoV-2, which may be an indicator of lower disease severity.” In fact, data suggests that omicron, while still present in the lungs, replicates 10 times more slowly there than does delta.
The data from Imperial College also suggests that omicron is largely evasive of past infection by delta or other variants. In fact, patients were found to be 5.4 times more likely to be reinfected by omicron, than they were to be reinfected by past variants. With just a 19% rate of protection from past infection, even patients recently recovered from delta are highly susceptible to becoming ill a second time with omicron. Whether past infection provides protection against severe illness is so far unclear.
