The dux/prince of paris created the first standing army in europe since the fall of Rome and then offered it’s services to any of the various princes in France if they would acknowledge him as their lord. Anjou(modern Bordeaux) said no, but after the moors trashed them, Anjou agreed. The lord of Paris met the moors in battle south and west of Paris at a place called Tours.
