Now and then an anecdote reaches me of a busybody telling someone to speak English. The best answer to that would be “I was speaking Navaho, and if you don’t like it you can go back to England”; but I like to imagine the target saying “okay” and then, in English and maybe a little bit louder than before, gossiping about icky medical matters.
