X is from the Greek word for fish, Ichthus. It was an acronym in the 1st century that spelled Jesus Christ God Son Savior from the Greek letters. The 2nd letter, X, was used for the Greek word, Christos. That is why the fish sign is associated with Christianity. It was a secret symbol used between believers during the Roman persecutions.
