Remember those beer commercials where the punchline was “Stay thirsty, my friends”? Did you ever stop to think about that? Given the choice between the beer they were pushing and total abstention, their pitchman advised not drinking any of it.
As funny as this comic strip is…there is a very dark side to all of this. COVID-19 is real and deadly! I was talking to a doctor Friday about the virus and he was telling me that he and his organization had to cancel their trip to Vietnam which they go and do plastic surgery on people who need it and can’t afford it such as repairing cleft palate’s and reforming of missing ears(birth defects). The doctor indicated that the Vietnamese government was not being honest with them as far as the increased numbers of coronavirus cases in that country. Also, there is a lot of price gouging going on in the United States right now as far as the cost of masks. A regular surgical mask will not work. It needs to be a formfitting mask such as a duck bill mask or N95…and one size does not fit all! You have to be properly “fit tested” to make sure you are wearing the right mask. This is usually performed in a hospital for the staff who could potentially be “exposed”. Next time you see a report about the coronavirus don’t look at what the public is wearing….look at what the staff is wearing…Biohazard suits and form fitting masks! Remember if odors and respiration’s can get in or out of the mask you have on, so can the virus! The public is in a panic in buying any mask on the market and they really don’t know what they’re buying. Recently, my husband and I happened to look on Walmart’s website and for one mask they were charging $149. On Amazon, a box of masks were going for upwards of about $400.00 to $1000.00 dollars. These companies that are preying on the public’s fears should be shot! I was talking to a nurse recently who felt that the World Health Organization(they are keeping daily reports and records of the price gouging on various companies around the world) would be going after some of these companies soon. Unfortunately, way to late for most of us!
I refuse to panic about the corona virus. If I develop symptoms I will isolate myself at home and call it my annual vacation. So far it seems less deadly than the flu that we deal with every year. So no need to panic. I reserve the right to change my tune if my nation reaches the point of more than 1 case per million people, as so far we aren’t even at that level of infection. Currently we have an infection rate of about 1 case per 5 million people.

Now this is hilarious, especially the nod to Rex Morgan MD strip.
