Let me try – this is a splash page for a long story arc. It’s like the beginning to a book. If you ask an adult, they’ll try to explain what books and long-format storytelling are. But, I expect they’ll fail to use small enough words… Sigh.
Yep — new “cover” for a vintage serial in 48 parts (half pages), now in living / afterlife color. I had to take out a little cartoon sex — SORRY! — and I replaced a World Trade Towers gag out of respect. NE originally appeared in weekly and daily papers with recap panels at the start of each page. I substituted narrative segue panels for the recap panels when the strips were printed in Now Endsville and Other Stories (Kitchen Sink Press, long out of print). This is the first online appearance of the story. Enjoy!
I originally clipped Carol’s strips from the L.A.WEEKLY (mumble) years ago. The panel on which this newly-drawn cover was based showed our heroine (she in the chair) only from her shoulders up. The body acting — the way her wrists flex upward and her legs raise at the moment of KLONK! — are new, subtle, and delicious. Kudos, Carol!
NB: 3 Steps: Most of the smaller images on the NOW, ENDSVILLE cover image in the link you list, are not from the book’s title story. Let the story take you where it will.MB: Chakolate: There IS a Looney-Tune-y feel to the swirl, isn’t there?. But, hey!, no classic like an old classic, right? (And can you imagine this animated?)
