At the funeral reception for my brother-in-law, I was seated at the children’s table. I was not put there to monitor table manners. :(

I remember being 15 years old…being the oldest one sitting at the kid’s table….looking over at the adult’s table and wondering which one of my relatives is going to kick the bucket next so that I could get promoted….

Ya know; if your mother is selfish, condescending, devoid of compassion or empathy, and a BITCH; you are not required to have a relationship with her. Particularly, since you are a self-reliant, intelligent, competent and beautiful young woman! Always keep unseemly people out of your life. Family or no.

When you consider the animals she works with, the kid’s table should not be that bad.

Then again…

I was the oldest one at the kids table. I was about 40 years old at the time. My cousin Shane, two years younger, was at the grownup table. It would have been more accurate to refer to it as the “married table”.
