My wife works herself into the ground. I’m not lazy, I’m a “convenience enthusiast”. Together we make sure everything gets done without wearing ourselves out.

This is the central premise in the marriage self-help book, “It Takes One to Tango”, which helps people save their marriages, or make them better, working alone without a partner’s help. The goal is to work through stages, ending up where this cartoon is: Accepting and loving the differences, and not being afraid of them. We keep trying to “fix” or “change” spouses, but we don’t have to. Thanks for the comic reminder.

I was married to a remarkable woman 24 years older than I. We had some problems, like everyone, and went to a counselor. After a couple of sessions, the counselor said we were two people who simply should not be together. So we broke up…with the counselor. We were together for another ten years before my wife died.
