It never was… it got popular because it’s from the land of the East and mysterious. My family is from Japan. They invented Sushi to save the country from the devastating effects of WWII. All they had at that time was rice, which was worth cents if exported, and the cunning to invent flavored rice balls that could be sold overseas at 10 dollars each. Then, one day while my grandpa was making rice balls, my dad found a book… “Chichi, look what I found” “Oh! Throw that away! It’s just a dirty old book.” “It says hai… ku… the cover is torn” “Yes, Haikusuro. It was your great great grandfather. He was crazy. He spent half his life writing nonsense that doesn’t even rhyme” “Yeah! But it sounds funny!” “Mmmm… you know what? Call your uncle. He’s the marketing genius. Maybe he can come up with something…” :D
