(3) Convince people that diamonds are the supreme gem, even though they’re less aesthetically appealing than colored stones. (4) When technology allows for artificial diamonds to be created, convince people that natural diamonds are superior, even though the artificial ones can be made to look so much like a flawless natural diamond that only a highly trained eye can tell the difference. You’d think that with the ridiculously high mark-up that they’re able to generate, they could find ways to protect their workers’ safety and pay them decent wages, but why treat your workers like human beings when there are plenty of others to take their place should they quit or die?
