When I was a kid, I read that Leonardo daVinci wrote some of his notes backwards. I decided I’d give it a try and actually got fairly good at it. However my teachers did not appreciate my handing in assignments this way.

That’s true. I saw some of his notes years ago in a museum in Siena. He could also write with both hands, at the same time.
