Transcript:
Bernice reads, "Here's an interesting fact: 'The bulletproof vest was invented by a woman.'" Brad, digging through the cupboard says, "Yeah. It's made outta some of Luann's macaroni. And the bazooka-proof model is lined with her Christmas cookie dough." Brad, munching on something as he walks off, says, "You should get one, Luann. Do they come in suze flat?" Luann replies, "What women really need is a bull-proof vest."

Stephanie Kwolek invented Kevlar.
The modern “soft” bullet-proof vest itself goes back to the early 19th century, the ballistic, “bullet-proof” vest even further back, to the Renaissance cuirass, which was originally designed to deflect arrows and swordblows.

The funny thing is, while Kwolek is remembered for inventing the original formula for the polymer used in the vests, she wasn’t actually involved in developing its actual applications in combat (in fact, her and team at Du Pont were looking for a new formula for tires, because of a looming petroleum shortage).
