"Hold it, Bernice. I need to say something to both of you. I was a jerk last week, and I want to apologize." "No need. We understand." "No, you don't. And that's the problem. Usually, having half a body doesn't bug me, but last week, for some reason, I felt like a useless freak. And there was no one who really understood." "I'm sorry, Zane. I push you around like a baby in a stroller, don't I?" "I have my own power source, y'know."
People are different. I used to work customer service in retail. Part of the job was to take people who needed extra help shopping. Some of them preferred me because I assumed they were adult people and treated them as such. Others liked being treated like helpless children, right down to speaking to them with that irritating cooing voice. None of those ever requested me a second time.
