"OK, Brad, I'll be honest. Are you Tom Cruise? No. But you have good values. Is Toni Daytona beautiful? Yes. But her priorities aren't pretty." "What I'm saying is, there's more to attraction than 'looks.'" "Uh-huh. But girls don't go, 'Wow! Check out the good values on that guy!'"
One thing about Dirk is that he had a tendency to make Toni look bad, and Toni has never looked worse.
She was an eyewitness to Dirk’s assault on Brad (at his gradation from the Firefighter’s Academy) and knows full well that Brad has a restraining order. But even though she promised Brad’s mother that she was done with Dirk for good, she still let him hang around. Worse, she faults Brad for wanting to enforce his restraining order.
Granted Toni is not a cop, but she should know that restraining orders are not optional assignments. It is not Brad’s discretionary authority to decide when he should let Dirk hang around, only to be used when he decides that Dirk is dangerous.
He has an obligation to call the police whenever Dirk gets near him and doesn’t leave as soon as he sees Brad. He doesn’t get to decide, “Okay, sometimes I use the restraining order and sometimes I won’t.”
He can find himself in serious trouble if he doesn’t enforce it.
