Grind it up and he can’t spit it out. I do this for all my dogs’ meds and it works great especially if I put it in ice cream. Yummy!

The cute dog you see in my pic will spit out the pills. Just can’t fool her. I will have to do as Pat Blue says and grind it up.

Make sure pills can be given ground up. I always rolled pills in a piece of cheese; my dog Charlie swallowed it without a problem.

My cat Sooty as seen in my picture will eat pills from my hand. Now that is one very odd cat.

Marmaduke’s a ladies’ dog, all right, but I somehow don’t think he needs any help in that department! ;-)

My last dog was really good about taking pills. I would have to give her 2 or more at each meal and she would just sit there and let me pop them down with no problem

I’ve tried every one of these ways to get pills into my dogs. It depends completely on the dog. Many I had the only way (15-20 dogs over 50 years) was force feeding them. open the mouth put the pill on the back of the tongue, shut the mouth and rub their throat. With perseverance that method works with all but the most strong willed, even my Doberman. That being said, the hands down best procedure is commercially available “Pill Pockets” the Plotthound I have currently has been the toughest to get a pill into to date. I give her an empty “Pill Pocket” followed by the one with the meds followed by a third to keep the confusion going. As for cats, I’ve yet to find a resonable way. When they are new to the idea of taking meds, force feeding works, but they soon figure out how to thwart our efforts.
