Ahhh the story resonates with me as we lost our Alex in LV of cancer and other issues, then our Brandy got so sick and had problems with her legs and walking after being in CA so had to get adult diapers for our bed and rug area where she laid as she couldn’t stand anymore. Our vet said to put her down when she got worse and boy did it hurt, still does. I love her so, so much she was our angel dog as compared to Alex…she was his mother figure. We got Cassidy as a puppy and she grew to 98 pounds as a full grown Rhodesian Ridgeback and she was my protector. Wouldn’t let anyone near me when I walked her as I had to take my doggie (oxygen and cart) with me when I walked her. She’d bark and growl at anyone who tried to come near me. One day I luckily noticed after her lunch her stomach was bulged. So we took her directly to the vet after calling. She had to stay overnight and no one was even there, so she passed away. No one called us I called the next morning and they told me she passed away overnight. They were supposed to bring us her body and they never did. We found another vet who went and got her and had her buried for us with a paw monument we have and still do. We waited quite a while 2 years before we went and got Buddy Max a yellow Lab and we had him for a good number of years before he had some medical issues and they came to the house to put him down. He was our last doggie…OK I need to go on with comics or I will never stop crying.
