Jesus did get mad at the money makers at the temple one time. He may have gotten mad as shown in this strip. Certain trump supporters are not behaving as one would hope no matter what religion you may practice…
It isn’t hypocrasy. The RRR aka Religious Republican Righties have always regarded women as suitable only for child-bearing (not rearing once the child is potty-trained if it is male) and keeping the chirch interior clean. Othwise keeping silent, head covered, eyes downcast.
For at least the past two generations, Republicans have depended on the Religious Right types to support them, and they have been very dependable, despite the fact that very few of them have enough money that they were not working against their own best interests. For them, it didn’t have anything to do with economics, because they were convinced that the Republicans believed in the Family Values agenda- anti-gay, anti-abortion, etc. Somehow they managed not to notice that once Republicans were elected, they completely ignored that agenda, or make it a trade-off for securing the goals of the 1%ers who were controlling the Republican party. In fact, they rarely mentioned those issues unless they were using them as a bargaining chip—- until the next time they needed volunteers, when it again became their mantra. After at least 40 years, the Religious Right finally figured out that the Establishment Republicans were playing them for fools, which created the current situation, and they are continuing to prove they are fools by voting against anyone who isn’t an Establishment Republican. The fact that they are considering Donald Trump, who has the Family Values credentials of an extremely active tomcat, is an indication of just how desperately they hate the establishment. It is going to be interesting to see how many of these people who are, in their own minds at least, a moral shining light actually are able to overlook the fact that they are voting for a person who has no morals at all.
That religious support does make you wonder just what their standards are.. multiple marriages.. a lifestyle / business model that certainly is against all those things that come from the pulpit. When Hillary suggested that Trump has a basket full of deplorable’s.. that basket looks a lot like a church.
Like many (not all) televangelists, Trump is all for “pass the loot.” I don’t know (anymore than anybody else reading this post) if Trump ever paid a woman to have an abortion, but I wouldn’t be the tiniest bit surprised. Maureen Dowd once asked him about this. His reply: “What an interesting question. Next question!”
I read that during the Cold War, the US religious establishment feared the Commies so much, and believed that only the GOP would be able to save the country, that they agreed to flip their most basic tenets. They jettisoned (or rather, downplayed) all that pinko socialist Jesus stuff and went in for the Prosperity Gospel. Televangelists and megachurches followed inevitably.
.
More recently, US churches flipped on the position that groping and rapey behavior were bad. They are still bad enough if they can point to a Democrat, but these things are no longer the deal breakers they were claimed as back in the 90s. The new position is “We’re not voting for a Pope!”
The stars on the republicon symbol are upside down and in the Satanic position. Trump is a satanic materialist. The ‘religious right’ think they are are praying to god but their actions belong to Satan.
Meanwhile any attempt by the Dems to feed the poor, Food Stamps, and heal the sick, Obamacare, are met with ridicule and hatred by the the right wing pharisees.
When I drive past a church with a big cross out on its lawn, I think that if Jesus does come back, preaching more of that socialist stuff, they’ll be ready for him.
While flipping channels this morning, I found one of those vile “preachers” asking for “seed money” which will end up solving all of your problems. In debt, lost your job, marital issues, kids running wild? Send this creep money and your problems will magically go away. How is this legal and tax-deductible?
“Wives, be subject to your husband, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord.” Colossians 3:18-22 (hey, they are right up there with children and slaves!)
.
Also check out Leviticus 12.1-8 for a woman’s uncleanness at times of menstruation and childbirth; many verses that place a lower monetary value on women than on men (especially slaves, another cheerful contribution of the bible to human culture)
.
There are literally dozens of other verses. But there is no need to cite chapter and verse. One has only to realize that the bible cannot be the guide to our morality or ethics, because it comes from a culture that was based on property rights (and make no mistake, in the bible the women are the property of the men; it’s right there in the ten commandments), whereas our culture is based on civil rights. No slavery, no female inferiority.
Head covering went out back with Vatican II. If women are equal in Catholicism, why are they not ordained as deacons? They served as such in Biblical times. (Acts and the Epistles) Any mention of priests there are referring to Jews or pagans. In Christianity, they were a 4th century invention. Deacons handled the local churches and Apostles the itinerant ministry.

That would be “paid for an abortion for a woman.” Although, come to think of it……..

The evangelicals want a republicon to nuke the mid east in their holy war to bring Jesus back. You can’t deal with people who are that irrational.

That is the choice: either accept Jesus and reject Trump or do the opposite. But, if you do the opposite, Trump will NOT get you to heaven.
